venting from a pregnant woman: watch out!

What is up with the negativity towards pregnancy in the general population around town? Maybe it's just me - but other pregnant women at work have noticed it as well - but people come into the ER and say "man, there's too many pregnant women here!" Or while registering for baby stuff - complete strangers making negative comments about "too many pregnant women in Lynchburg!"

Umm... puh-lease! The part of me that is still being sanctified wants to tell them to shut the @#%%$# up!

Maybe I am super-sensitive since I prayed for the gift of pregnancy and begged God for the blessing of a baby - and my heart aches for my friends who are still waiting for that answered prayer - perhaps because of that, I am so irritated when I hear perfect strangers, or even coworkers or friends, make negative comments about what I consider to be an amazing miracle.

Usually I say something like "yes- but aren't you glad that smart people are reproducing?" They laugh and say "I guess you have a point."

I could say more: I won't be taking your hard earned money to pay for my baby, welfare isn't going to support her poor feeding habits and subsequent medical problems, she will be taught to work hard, pay her bills, study hard, contribute to society, live for God's glory -- but I usually stop because I don't want to be a complete jerk. I could also make an observation that redheads are genetically dying off and so I am glad to be supporting the red head gene. Or say something like - wow, my husband and I have a bona fide citizen growing in this womb. She'll be paying for your health care one day. So be glad she's there. Or, how about this thought - do you want our country to end up like Germany - where they're having to offer financial incentives so that citizens will reproduce? Illegal immigrants are reproducing like crazy. Other religions that hate what America stands for are multiplying like crazy. Maybe we American citizens are a little short-sighted. Maybe instead of complaining about "all the pregnant women in Lynchburg..." people should start saying "thank you for investing in our future!"

Ok, the vent session is over. Maybe next time someone makes a snide comment at work... I will have a sweeter disposition to say something that glorifies God instead of making myself feel better.
